6. Type 003 Fujian

With features that have stunned navy experts all around, the Type 003 Fujian reflects China's most ambitious and groundbreaking carrier design. Displacing more than 80,000 tonnes, this large vessel uses electromagnetic catapult technology akin to that of the USS Gerald R. Ford, but with some creative changes that improve its operational range. The carrier's most remarkable feature is its groundbreaking integrated power system, which mixes nuclear and conventional power sources to offer until unheard-of capability for electrical generating. While driving improved radar systems and future directed-energy weapons, this hybrid technique allows several electromagnetic catapults to operate simultaneously. Three electromagnetic catapults and four arrestor wires make up the distinctive "split-deck" arrangement of the flight deck that permits simultaneous launch and recovery operations from many points. Advanced artificial intelligence systems maximise operational efficiency by controlling aircraft movement and maintenance scheduling, hence lowering staff needs. Among the up to 60 aircraft the carrier's air wing can carry are J-15B fighters, KJ-600 airborne early warning aircraft, and many unmanned combat aerial vehicles. With a distributed sensor and weapon network under control by a sophisticated combat management system, the vessel's combat systems integration marks a new paradigm in naval architecture. Included in the carrier's defence suite are close-in weapon systems, HHQ-9B surface-to---air missiles, and advanced electronic warfare capability. Including robotic servicing facilities and automated ammo handling systems shows China's dedication to stretching carrier design limits.
