The powers of military robotic dogs should grow greatly as technology develops. Studies in fields including better autonomy, expanded sensory systems, and more complex artificial intelligence algorithms are under continuous flux. These advances, however, beg serious ethical issues regarding the part autonomous systems should play in conflict. While military organisations ensure that technologies remain instruments to help and protect human operators rather than replace them, they are attempting to set clear policies for their deployment. Both technical possibilities and ethical issues will probably define the fate of these robotic fighters.
