6. The Rare Desert Rain Phenomenon

The uncommon rainfall event of the desert, which occurs just a few times year, is maybe the most amazing yet elusive phenomena. When the Namib experiences rain at last, it sets off a remarkable change. Within hours, latent seeds come alive and cover the red sand in a carpet of green grass. Often dormant for years, desert ephemeral plants blossom in an amazing show of hues. This little moment of plenty draws many insects, birds, and other animals, therefore providing a temporary desert oasis. One of the most sought-after natural spectacles in Africa, the phenomena usually lasts just a few weeks until the strong sun brings the terrain back to its normal parched condition.
