3. Social Hierarchy Dynamics
Capybara groups' social structure is significantly more complicated than first known. These creatures preserve complex hierarchical systems that control everything from feeding priorities and breeding rights. Usually consisting of 10–20 people, each group has a complex social structure including several levels of leadership and particular roles for certain members. Rather than open physical conflict, the dominant male's posture is routinely questioned by ceremonial displays of strength and agility. Female capybaras also have their own hierarchy, which affects access to the safest areas for resting and nursing young as well as reproductive success. This social structure comprises intricate networks of support and alliances that change depending on the membership of the group and the surroundings.
