5. Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS)

Underwater imaging possibilities have been much enhanced by synthetic apertures sonar technologies. SAS systems may generate quite detailed images with centimeter-scale resolution at ranges beyond 300 meters by aggregating several sonar pings and advanced signal processing. Even in demanding surroundings, this technology helps operators to find mine-like objects with hitherto unheard-of clarity. Modern SAS systems can process data in real-time and include automatic target recognition algorithms, therefore greatly saving the time needed for mine identification and classification.
