10. Optical Laser Scanning Systems
High-resolution underwater imaging capability of optical laser scanning devices augment conventional sonar-based detection techniques. These systems may produce finely detailed 3D models of underwater objects with millimeter-scale resolution by using blue-green lasers that can successfully pass through water. To offset water turbidity and dispersed light, modern systems have sophisticated filtering algorithms, therefore allowing efficient operation in many environmental circumstances. The most recent technologies can run at depths up to 100 meters and have automatic target recognition features, therefore preserving consistent image quality.
