3. Photonic Crystal Sensor Array
This innovative device detects changes in underwater habitats with before unheard-of sensitivity by using photonic crystals. Thousands of tiny sensors within the array react to changes in pressure, temperature, and chemical composition. Every crystal structure is intended to interact with light in particular ways to produce unique patterns that may be examined to pinpoint underwater events. Early warning of possible hazards or environmental changes, the system can identify minute changes in water chemistry that might point to the existence of underwater boats, aquatic life, or geological activity.
